Organisational Wing

The Country Liberal Party is based on a strong branch structure throughout the Territory. Under the constitution of the Party organisation it consists of:

Annual Conference | Central Council | Management Committee | Branches | Secretariat

Annual Conference:

Annual Conference is the annual meeting of the duly elected delegates of the Branches of the Party and is the ultimate governing body of Country Liberals. Under the constitution Branches hold the voting power. The Annual Conference may determine the general platform and policy of the Party, such business as Central Council and the Management Committee may submit, business as the Conference may decide.

Central Council:

The day to day management of the Party's operation is vested by Conference in Central Council. Council is the ultimate management body and meets at least four times a year. It has limited powers to make or vary policy on an interim basis. While basically an administrative body, Council does provide a forum for the discussion of political issues. Each year Central Council appoints a number of committees to carry out duties imposed upon them by Council. The most important is the Management Committee.

Mangement Committee:

Exercises the power vested in Central Council and has the power to manage all the affairs of the Party. It is a responsibility delegated to it by Central Council. Management Committee's powers are enshrined in the Constitution of the Party. The Management Committee consists of:

  • the President of the Country Liberal Party;
  • the two Vice Presidents;
  • the Leader and the Deputy Leader of the Party in the Northern Territory Legislative Assembly;
  • the Treasurer;
  • the Territory Director;
  • four members of Central Council; and
  • Federal Members of Parliament.

Branches

The Country Liberal Party has always emphasised the value of a strong and effective branch system. Branches hold regular meetings often with strong committee structures. On the whole Branches are concerned with the progress of the district in which they reside and are concerned with the Party consistent with the objects and policies of the Party.

Branches elect delegates to represent them at Central Council and Annual or Special Conferences. There are CLP Branches throughout the NT. For Branch information contact the Secretariat.

Secretariat

The Secretariat provides administrative back up and support to the Party in all matters relating to organisation. It provides support to the Executive of the Party, various committees of the Party, the Central Council and organises the Annual Conference. It assists with the revision of the Party Platform and Constitution, provides Electoral Act advice and assists in the development of reference and resource material.
