CLP CALLS FOR RELEASE OF SECRET ICAC REPORT

January 11, 2022

Deputy Leader of the Opposition, Gerard Maley, says that last week’s revelations surrounding the former ICAC commissioner highlighted the existence of an ICAC report into the dodgy grandstand deal and if this is a separate report, the Chief Minister should release it immediately.

“In the report released on 5 Jan, the Inspector referred to the findings released in June 2021 regarding the grandstand:

The ICAC had provided the Chief Minister, who is the Minister responsible for the ICAC, a Report dealing with the same subject matter. This report has not been tabled in the Legislative Assembly, nor otherwise made public.

“Opposition questions have now been submitted to the Chief Minister through a formal Parliamentary process in regards to whether or not there was in fact another report into the grandstand deal.

“The Labor Government has continually claimed it is ‘open and transparent’, yet as we have seen over and over again, this is not the case.

“If in fact there is a separate report, we call on the Chief Minister to release it immediately.

“In addition, following on from the ICAC revelations last week that allegations dealt with in the report were “currently subject to an investigation by NT Police”, we ask the Chief Minister Gunner and Nicole Manison, the Minister for Police, to confirm what and who is under further police investigation and whether or not there is a broader investigation into the deal?

“If there is any police investigation into the dodgy grandstand deal, then it should include the Chief Minister’s office.

“Territorians deserve to know of the role played in the deal by the Gunner Government, where taxpayer dollars were spent and that all deals made by the Government are above-board.

“It’s time the Labor Government walked their talk and actually be open and transparent. It’s just not good enough and Territorians deserve better.” said Mr Maley.
