SHELVES STRIPPED AS GUNNER FAILS TO SECURE SUPPLY ROUTE

January 31, 2022

Deputy Leader of the Opposition, Gerard Maley, says critical food and supply shortages causing widespread impact across the Territory highlights a major lack of investment by the Gunner Labor Government to ensure the Stuart Highway is a secure and stable supply route.

“The failure to properly invest in critical road and rail infrastructure has had a significant impact on access to essential supplies from Central Australia to the Top End.

“Labor has revealed a major weakness for supply chains in the Territory, which needs to be addressed immediately.

“Territorians have been left in the dark on the Gunner Government’s plan to address critical food shortages. Once again the Federal Government has come to our rescue in the absence of any leadership from Michael Gunner. Labor has failed Territorians, once again.

“The Gunner Labor Government has been in power for six years now. It’s not acceptable for Territorians to run out of food due to a weather event along a major highway.

“The Chief Minister has failed on a multitude of fronts. His incompetent government, and incompetent Infrastructure Minister, Eva Lawler, have failed to invest in critical transport infrastructure.

“Meanwhile, Michael Gunner has failed to work with the South Australian Government to upgrade this crucial transit link. Instead of planning for the future and investing in upgrades to the Territory’s roads and rail, Labor has taken its usual approach of inaction and Territorians are paying the price.

“The Gunner Government has been silent on its plan to support vulnerable Territorians, families and seniors through this food and supply shortage. Does Michael Gunner even have a plan? We need immediate measures to ensure Territorians have access to essential supplies. “It’s not good enough and Territorians deserve better,” said Mr Maley.
